At Merrimack Health, we are committed to pay transparency and equity. The base salary range is $380,000 to $420,000 annually, excluding fringe benefits and potential bonuses.
Your final base salary will be determined based on your education, experience, licensure, and internal equity considerations. Offers are typically made below the top of the range to support future salary growth.
Merrimack Health is the newly unified regional health system formed through the 2024 integration of Lawrence General Hospital with the Holy Family Hospitals (Methuen and Haverhill campuses). Position Overview:
Merrimack Health is seeking a skilled General & Trauma Surgeon to join our expanding surgical team. This role blends general surgery with acute care/trauma surgery in a busy community-based Level III Trauma Center. The surgeon will practice primarily at Merrimack Health Lawrence Hospital, with opportunities to collaborate across the multi-campus system. This is an excellent opportunity for a surgeon who values teamwork, community impact, and high-quality patient care.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide acute care and trauma surgery coverage for the Level III Trauma Center at Lawrence Hospital.
Participate in a 1:5 call rotation with a collaborative group of general/trauma surgeons.
Perform general surgery cases in the operating room about 1.5 days per week.
Maintain outpatient surgical clinics 1.5-2 days per week, averaging about 20 patients per clinic day.
Allocate 4 hours per week for administrative duties.
Work closely within a multispecialty health system, collaborating with primary care, OB/GYN, cardiology, urology, and other clinical services.
Document all patients care in Meditech Expanse, the system-wide electronic medical record.
Contribute to quality initiatives, performance improvement, and the system's mission of equity-focused, community-centered care.
Required Education and Qualifications:
MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery.
ATLS certification required.
Eligible for medical licensure in Massachusetts.
Demonstrated commitment to community-based, equitable, culturally competent care.
Preferred:
Fellowship training or significant experience in Trauma and/or Acute Care Surgery strongly preferred, though not required.
Schedule:
Clinic: 1.5-2 days/week
Operating Room: ~1.5 days/week
Call: 1 in 5
Administrative Time: 4 hours/week
