Full-time position available with the Water Department, Regulatory Compliance Division, located at 4707 Deramus Ave.
Salary Range: $24.77-$37.16/hour
Normal Work Days/Hours: Tuesday-Saturday 8:00a.m.-4:30p.m.

Responsibilities

• Assists the Environmental Manager of the Household Hazardous Waste Program with on-site management support at the Kansas City Regional Household Hazardous Waste Facility and mobile HHW event assistance.
• Identifies chemicals, lab packing thew waste, and tracking of the chemicals from Household Hazardous Waste Events to final disposal.
• Interacts with customers and the general public on a daily basis in person and on the phone.
• Works with the public at outreach events and educational seminars as required.
• Assists with other environmental compliance needs, including but not limited to: Self-Monitoring Report (SMR) reviews, hazardous waste disposal assistance, and inspection assistance.
• Assists with the Industrial Pretreatment Program, writing permits, reviewing self-monitoring reports, participating in inspections and initiating enforcement responses.
• Oversees the identification, segregation, packaging and transportation of hazardous wastes at facilities up to large quantity generator status.
• Participates in environmental activities associated with sample collection for environmental programs. Participates in activities related to inventory and storage of chemicals, and supplies. Coordinates sampling schedules with other divisions in the department, and with water customers.
• Performs environmental inspections at moderately complex facilities, evaluating conditions and procedures at that facility for compliance with environmental laws, regulations, City policies and sound management practices.
• Prepares reports documenting the findings of inspections and identifying corrective actions for deficiencies. Tracks correction of identified deficiencies and implementation of identified improvements.

Qualifications

REQUIRES an accredited Bachelor's degree in an environmentally related field, such as environmental science and related physical and life sciences, environmental engineering and related engineering specializations, environmental law and related legal specializations or environmental studies and related management, environmental planning and related urban planning specializations, environmental education, environmental policy, sustainability, and public administration specializations; OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience. Must possess of a valid state-issued drivers license in accordance with City of KCMO policies. May be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen.

The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.

Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
