Commitment:

  • 12-16 hours per week for the duration of the internship. The weekly schedule is flexible to accommodate class and work schedules.
  • Must be available for orientation on Wednesday, January 7th , 2026
  • Must be available for presentation of project on Wednesday, May 20th , 2026

Stipend : Unpaid; school credit can be earned for this internship in most cases.

Position Summary :

Butterfly Pavilion is seeking a dedicated and creative individual to join our team as a Graphic Design Intern. The Graphic Design Intern will produce illustrations, designs and marketing materials for a nonprofit achieving global impact in invertebrate education, research, and conservation. This intern will be responsible for creating and preparing branded promotional materials such as print and digital ads that help promote and engage our audience in the programs and offerings Butterfly Pavilion provides to the community. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about conservation, marketing, communications, and making a positive impact in the community.

Upon orientation completion, the intern will work with their supervisor to develop a work plan and project outline. Interns are required to develop a term project and presentation. Additional information for this project will be provided upon starting.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Develop print and digital designs to promote exhibits, upcoming public events and programs, and other initiatives for Social Media channels, digital and email advertising, and on-site locations
  • Work closely with the marketing department to design and edit branded marketing collateral to meet specific project goals
  • Meet deadlines and expectations to complete a project over the duration of the internship. Professionally present this project to Butterfly Pavilion team members at the end of the internship.
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Be part of a collaborative team working to promote Butterfly Pavilion to further our mission.

Qualifications:

  • A portfolio of previously completed work showing an understanding of the fundamentals of graphic design .
  • Proficiency using Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Photoshop to create visually appealing content .
  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills and familiarity with formatting for print and digital media .
  • Professional, inclusive and open communicator able to work, and solve problems, independently and on a team .
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint required .
  • Ability to learn new and work with new technology , as needed .

Additional Requirements:

  • Equipment: Access to personal laptop or computer with internet connection is a plus, though loaner laptop can be provided if needed.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from both Butterfly Pavilion and the offsite office in Broomfield, Colorado
  • Must be currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's degree in Marketing , Communications, Journalism, Advertising, or related subject
  • Must be available for orientation on Wednesday, January 7th , 2026
  • Must be available for presentation of project on Wednesday, May 20th , 2026

  • At Butterfly Pavilion, the team member is occasionally exposed to moderate to loud environmental noise for extended periods of time. While performing the responsibilities of this position, the team member is required to talk and hear . The team member is often required to sit and stand, use their hands and fingers, to handle/feel/grasp. The team member is occasionally required to reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision. The team member should be able to lift, carry and items up to 50 lbs.
