Pediatric Anesthesiologist – Portland, Maine
Spectrum Healthcare Partners is seeking full-time BC/BE pediatric anesthesiologists to join our dynamic team of over 60 physicians at Maine Medical Center—a 700-bed, Level 1 Trauma Center and flagship hospital for the State of Maine, home to Maine’s premier pediatric referral hospital, the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital, and a leading teaching hospital for Tufts University School of Medicine.
About This Role:
This is a unique opportunity to practice high-acuity, academic medicine in a physician-owned and physician-led private practice. Our pediatric group delivers approximately 6,000 pediatric anesthetics per year across MMC’s hospital, outpatient surgery center, and imaging facilities.
- Pediatric Case Mix: 45% pediatrics/55% adult, including neonatal surgery, complex neuro, ENT, cardiac (bypass opportunities for qualified candidates), and “bread and butter” peds cases
- Manageable Call: Call averages 1 weekday per week and <1 weekend per month, with a strong team approach to coverage.
- Academic Engagement, Private Practice Foundation: Contribute meaningfully to resident and fellow education, participate in clinical research, and pursue academic advancement - all within a physician-owned practice that still values autonomy, innovation, and physician leadership.
- Exceptional Compensation: Full-time, call-taking anesthesiologists average $600k annually for 1900 hours of work per year, with additional earnings through time-based incentive pay.
- Generous Time Off: 8 weeks of vacation plus additional comp days.
- Manageable Call: Call averages 1 weekday per week and <1 weekend per month, with a strong team approach to coverage.

- Candidate Requirements: ABA certified and complete Pediatric Anesthesiology Boards within 4 years.
